Mutually Assured Dysfunction (demo)
A square acrylic painting of the following scene: Behind a rusty chain link and barbed wire fence are rusty canisters buried in the sand--7 visible, but there could be many more out of frame. Some of the canisters (1 in frame) are mostly covered with chipped blue paint, and the rest with chipped pink paint. The blue and pink canisters are separated by another fence, perpendicular to the first. The external fence the viewer is looking through has two nuclear waste warnings, one on either side of the internal separator fence. They're both yellow, with a black border and a black radioactive symbol. The sign on the left, in front of the blue canisters, used to be a triangle, but a couple of it's corners have rounded a bit over the years. The sign on the right, in front of the pink canisters, used to be a circle but has broken off pieces that left a couple of straight edges.

It's impossible to raise a kid right from under the boot, and it's impossible to be a good parent if you're rich.

Notes:

  • second part of the first verse is about the military
  • despite mentioning two families in the first verse, we're not the ones I was comparing in the first chorus. We're both on the "love" end of the spectrum, and on the "money" end is like... the Musks
  • when I say "good parents can't even survive," I'm not trying to say the ones remaining are bad parents lol
  • I'm iffy on the vocals for this one, not sure what style would be best

Lyrics

Here's hoping you don't end up like me
Got cavities on my wisdom teeth
Holes in my shoes, breaks in my heart
Every minor inconvenience tears me apart
Here's hoping you don't end up like them
Never knowing when you'll see Dad again
Sometimes it seems like the only choice
To make it through the noise

When every child is traumatized
You know we're not doing this shit right
'Cause it's money or love
So no one grows up with enough

Here's hoping I don't end up like her
Knowing no role but sabateur
Buying the love she threw away
So she can get her validation from the mouths of babes
Here's hoping they don't end up like him
Just chugging along till the cancer wins
And that I don't give up on you
Though grief would wreck me too

Good parents can't even survive
To watch their kids grow up and thrive
'Cause it's money to live
And he gave all that he could give

I'm pretty sure you'd end up like me
Financially it's all but guaranteed
I've spent my life searching for the exit
So I guess it's good you won't exist
